ARBOORETUM, FAMILY DAY ON THE PRAIRIE ARE BOTH TOMORROW

Houston Arboretum & Nature Center presents ArBOOretum, a great way for the whole family to enjoy Halloween festivities in a natural environment, on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 12 to 5 pm. Children are encouraged to wear costumes and are invited to join the Costume Parade, which will take place at 2 and 4 p.m., and receive an additional ArBOOtreat. General public admission, which includes all activities at the event, is $15 for ages 3 and up. Refreshments will be sold separately. For information call (713) 366-0421.Also on Saturday, to celebrate the beauty and diversity of the Katy Prairie, KPC is hosting a free family event and preserve tour on its Nelson Farms Preserve. Families can participate in fun, hands-on activities that highlight some of the magnificent creatures, agricultural practices, and landscapes still at home on the Katy Prairie. Use a dip net to capture aquatic insects, plant grass seedlings to help restore a prairie patch, call like a duck, get up close and personal with huge farm equipment, bird watch through binoculars and scopes, and much more. The event is from 9 am -12 pm at Nelson Farms Preserve – Main Entrance. All participants should wear appropriate outdoor clothing, including closed-toe-shoes and long pants.
