CLIMATE CHANGE RESEARCH AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Tackling climate change is one of the British Government’s top foreign policy priorities. The British Embassy is seeking a climate change research and communications officer (RCO) on technology for a new position based at the Consulate General in Houston. This position will be part of the new National Climate Change Team (NCCT) run by the Global Issues Group from the Embassy in Washington.The NCCT will focus on the range of stakeholders beyond the Beltway, complementing a separate team in the Global Issue Group working on Federal issues. The role of the RCO will be to develop materials, events and visits on clean technology aspects of climate change, working through the Embassy and Consulates.

The RCO will deal with a range of stakeholders who are leading efforts to minimise greenhouse gas emissions in all walks of life, especially in the power generation, industry and transport sectors, as well as academia, business, science and technology groups to provide timely and effective reporting to the UK government on US climate change technology issues.

Minimum Qualifications – Bachelor’s degree required; two years federal, academic, commercial, or NGO experience in the US; background in climate change, environment and clean technology issues preferred; a demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues in a clear way tailored for the audience; able to represent the Embassy at external meetings and win the confidence of senior officials, businesspeople, and UK government ministers; and demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in diverse and high-paced teams.

Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A Visa holders.
