TWO EVENTS ABOUT LEED

The U.S. Green Building Council- Greater Houston Area Chapter will present a case study on Discovery Green on Wednesday, June 25 at the Houstonian Hotel, at 6:30 pm. A reception begins at 5:30 pm with complimentary beverages and light appetizers. The meeting is open to the public. A panel of speakers will discuss the park’s design process and features. The park’s location in a dense urban center and access to public transportation, as well as complete remediation of a brownfield site, provision of facilities for cyclists, and prevention of pollution during construction all earned LEED credits. Other important green features are the park’s efficient irrigation system, recycling of groundwater from the garage for use in water features and irrigation, and use of high tech, highly-efficient restroom fixtures are important green features as well. Solar panels sponsored by BP, along with other efficient technologies are being used to heat water and to generate electricity on-site.
