EXPLORE NATURE ON GALVESTON ISLAND MAY 3

The natural wonders of Galveston Island’s east end will be celebrated during the first East End Nature Exploration Day, Saturday, May 3. Activities will include guided walks of Big Reef Nature Park, easy kayak exploration of the East End Lagoon, seining demonstrations to learn about marine life such as fish, shrimp and crabs, and beach combing to discover seashells and other coastal treasures. Visitors also will get a close-up look of a variety of birds and learn about water safety from a Beach Patrol rescue demonstration. All activities will be free. Tours will be on foot, by kayak and trolley and will accommodate various skill levels and physical abilities. Representatives from Artist Boat, the U.S. Coast Guard, National Marine Fisheries, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Texas A & M University at Galveston will join Galveston Beach Patrol, area Master Naturalists and Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council will lead activities. Information tents will be on Seawall Boulevard at Lakeside Drive, near Nash’s Bait Camp at 125 Boddeker Road, and on far East Beach near Apffel Park.
