The Texas state government spends less money per resident than any other state in the country, according to a new survey that also ranks Texas as the fourth best-run state in the nation.

RADIOACTIVE DUMP COULD GET OK DESPITE PROXIMITY TO GROUNDWATER

The head of the state’s environmental agency could recommend licensing of a radioactive waste dump despite an agency report that indicates the West Texas site is too close to a groundwater supply, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

An aircraft might be flying over the Gulf of Mexico as early as today in an effort to discover why 21 decaying dolphin carcasses were found over two days in Brazoria, Galveston and Jefferson counties, officials said Tuesday.

FIRST STEP TAKEN IN WEST END BEACH PROJECT

Galveston County took the first step Wednesday to undertaking the biggest beach-reconstruction project in Texas history. It would put 200 to 300 feet of sand along a three-mile stretch extending west from the end of the seawall in Galveston.
