HOUSTON’S ENERGY FUTURE IS NOW

Local attorney Dan Hedges and Oak Ridge North mayor Fred O’Connor will be the speakers at the CEC annual meeting on March 11.

When Dan and Adele Hedges’ house in the Upper Kirby neighborhood is completed later this year, they will have complete energy self- sufficiency. The house will be completely “off the grid” with solar panels, geothermal wells for heat and cooling, and rainwater harvesting.

About 80 percent of the homes in Oak Ridge North get their electricity from a biodiesel-powered generating plant owned by Biofuels Power Corp. The plant began producing power on March 5, 2007. It primary fuel is chicken fat.

Our speakers will focus on the political, economic, regulatory, and social challenges they have encountered in these projects.

The meeting will begin with a social and business meeting at 6:30 pm and the presentation will begin at 7:15. The event will be at 3015 Richmond in the first floor meeting room. Space is limited, so please RSVP to ella@cechouston.org. Annual meeting sponsors are Kirksey, Georgia Bost’s Texas Grass-fed Beef, and the Village Botanica, Inc.
