BACTERIA IN OUR BAYOUS

Many bayous in the Houston metropolitan area contain levels of bacteria that exceed target levels for safe swimming and contact recreation. Strategies to reduce bacteria will impact many citizens and governments in our region and could result in higher costs for wastewater treatment and stormwater management. On October 15 – 16 join the TCEQ, US Environmental Protection Agency, City of Houston, Harris County Flood Control District, Harris County, Texas Department of Transportation, and other regional stakeholders to explore the technical and policy issues surrounding this process. Monday’s sessions will cover what is known about water quality and what are the questions about water quality and TMDL. On Tuesday, the talk will turn to potential solutions. The registration fee is $125, but for students it is $35. The conference is at University of St. Thomas, Jerabeck Activity Center, 4000 Mt. Vernon. To register and for more information, see Bayou Preservation Association’s website.
