BIKE AROUND GALVESTON BAY

Galveston Bay Foundation and Lyondell Chemical have joined forces to sponsor the Lyondell Bike Around the Bay, a two-day bike ride highlighting the beauty and majesty of Galveston Bay. The ride begins in Baytown on Saturday, October 20, and travels east around the bay, through the Trinity River Delta and down through the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge to High Island. The bikers will take the ferry from Bolivar Peninsula to Galveston. The tour goes through the historic Galveston Strand to Moody Gardens, which will host an informal beach party Saturday night.On Sunday, riders will cross the Galveston Causeway and travel through Texas City, Kemah, Seabrook, Shoreacres and La Porte, then cross the Fred Hartman Bridge and return to Baytown.

The registration fee is $100. Moody Gardens is offering discounted rooms for Saturday night and other area hotels are available with shuttles for the cyclists. Bikers can register and get more information at the Web site . All proceeds benefit the Galveston Bay Foundation and its work to preserve the bay and its estuaries.
