TOMATO FEST SATURDAY
Urban Harvest’s Bayou City Farmers’ Market will host a Tomato Fest on two Saturdays, June 9 and June 16. The event features a tasting and sale of many kinds of homegrown tomatoes, including heirloom varieties. Dr. Bob Randall, also known as the Tomato Doctor, will be on hand to answer all your tomato growing questions, and two cooks will be whipping up delicious dishes for tasting. D.J. Seidel, star of last week’s Chronicle’s story will bring heirloom tomato plants for sale. Besides tomatoes, there will be an abundance of locally grown produce for sale – green beans, peppers, summer squash, sweet corn, blueberries, peaches and more. The market also sells pastured eggs, honey and beeswax products, prepared foods, yeast breads, baked goods, healthy snacks, hot sauces, jams and jellies, shelled pecans, goats’ milk and goats’ milk kefir and cheeses. The market also offers knife sharpening while you shop. Live music and kids’ activities will be featured. The Bayou City Farmers Market is open from 8 am to noon every Saturday and 4 to 7 pm every Wednesday. It is in the back parking lot of 3000 Richmond, which is between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway at Eastside.
