CEC JOINS RACHEL CARSON CELEBRATION SUNDAY

May 27, 2007 marks the 100 anniversary of the birth of Rachel Carson. Carson’s book “Silent Spring,” published in 1962, launched the contemporary environmental movement and led directly to the banning of the pesticide DDT. The Citizens’ Environmental Coalition has been invited to join the Cockrell Butterfly Center’s event, “A Sense of Wonder”, which is a tribute to Carson, on Sunday, May 27, from 11 – 3 pm. Other participants will be Bugs on Wheels, a henna artist, and displays from area environmental groups including Texans for Alternatives to Pesticides, Galveston Baykeeper, and Mothers for Clean Air. “Silent Spring” and several other books will be sold. The event is in the outside the Cockrell Butterfly Center in the grand hall of Houston Museum of Natural Science, One Hermann Circle Drive. Admission to the event (only) is free.
