PARKS MASTER PLAN HEARINGS CONTINUE

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department has been holding public hearings about revisions to the Parks Master Plan for the past six weeks. At a hearing last week, City Council Member Carol Alvarado announced that plans to flatten Gus Wortham Golf Course to develop a soccer complex have been shelved. The final hearings are Monday, May 14, at Meadow Wood Elementary School, 14230 Memorial, for District G, Council Member Pam Holm; and May 15 at Creekwood Middle School Cafetorium, 3603 West Lake Houston Parkway, and May 17 at San Jacinto Community College, 13735 Beamer, Fine Art Building, both for District E, Council Member Addie Wiseman. These hearings will be from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.Also, there will be two meetings for input on plans for Lake Houston Park. This 5,000-acre wilderness park is unlike any other city park. Some people want to keep the park a sanctuary for wildlife and visitors but others want to develop the park with more buildings, RV camping, and roads. One meeting will be at the park, 22031 Baptist Encampment Dr, New Caney on Sunday, May 20 from 3 to 5 pm. The second will be Monday, May 21 at Judson Robinson Community Center on Hermann Drive in Houston. Call (713) 845-1000 for additional details.
