PETITON TO THE EPA, TCEQ AND CITY OF HOUSTON FOR CLEAN AIR

Citizens League for Environmental Action Now (CLEAN) has launched an environmental justice petition to help citizens living near the Houston Ship Channel and surrounding neighborhoods fight against industrial pollutants. The petition asks the Environmental Protection Agency, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and the City of Houston to immediately enforce the reduction of benzene, 1, 3-butadiene and other carcinogenic emissions. A recent study found that children living within two miles of the Ship Channel have a 56 percent higher risk of contracting acute lymphocytic leukemia than children living more than 10 miles from the channel.
