A BUSY WEEK FOR GARDENERS

Area gardeners may have a hard time deciding which meetings and talks to attend this Tuesday, April 17. The Houston Audubon Society is sponsoring “Native Prairie Grasses” at 6:30 pm at Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center. Call Sam Barnett at (713) 932-1639 for details. Mercer Arboretum will have a potluck lunch from 11 am to 1 pm with a talk, “How To Tell The Good Garden Critters From The Bad Critters”. Mercer is at 22306 Aldine Westfield Road. Also at Mercer, later that day, The Piney Woods Wildlife Society will host a talk on wild orchids of Texas. That meeting begins at 7 pm. Finally, Urban Harvest is presenting an introduction to permaculture from 7 to 10 pm at Emerson Unitarian Church, 1900 Bering Dr. Register at (713) 880-5540.On Thursday, April 19, the Native Plant Society of Texas – Houston Chapter will open its meeting with a brief Earth Day Ceremony. Farrar Stockton will speak on plants for local moths and butterflies. The meeting is at Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, 4501 Woodway, at 7 pm.
