GLOBAL WARMING’S EFFECT ON THE HOUSTON REGION APRIL 24
CEC’s annual meeting on Tuesday, April 24, will feature a presentation on the effect of global warming on Houston. Dr. Barry Lefer, atmospheric scientist and assistant professor in geophysics at University of Houston, and LaVerne Williams, a local pioneer in green architecture, will make presentations about the global and local effects of atmospheric warming. Karl Pepple, Director of Environmental Programming, Mayor’s Office, City of Houston, will moderate.
The University of Houston recently received an EPA grant for Dr. Lefer and his team to study how changes in air quality from ozone and particulate matter affect exposure to ultraviolet radiation. He has worked in Greenland and at the South Pole.
LaVerne Williams founded Environment Associates in 1975. It is thought to be the oldest architectural practice in Texas dedicated exclusively to the creation of green residential architecture.
The annual meeting will begin at 7 pm with refreshments and a brief business meeting. The presentations will begin at 7:30. The meeting will be at 3015 Richmond, the Upper Kirby Center, in the first floor meeting room. The meeting is free and open to the public. RSVPs by people attending to (713) 524-4232 or ella@cechouton.org will be appreciated.
