CLIMATE PROTECTION ALLIANCE HOSTS AUGUST CONFERENCE

The Houston Climate Protection Alliance is sponsoring “Peak Oil Mini-Conference, Why Gasoline Prices Will Keep Going Up and Some Solutions” on August 13. Peak Oil is the moment when oil production, after increasing for generations, reaches a high and then begins to decline. Nan Hildreth, an organizer of the event, says, “The geological limits causing peak oil will force us to invest in new productive and consumer energy tools.” The conference will host experts on solutions to global warming and energy.

The keynote speaker, Jeffrey J. Brown, an independent geologist, is the author of “What the mainstream media are not telling you about the run-up in oil prices” and “Texas and lower 48 oil production as a model for Saudi Arabia and the world.” There will be a panel discussion of solutions to peak oil and then a series of workshops. Presenters include: Karl Pepple, the City of Houston’s director of environmental programming; Fred Yebra, director of Austin Energy’s nationally recognized energy efficiency program; Alan S. Drake and Jamie Mitchell, experts on electric transportation; and Chris Boyer, vice president of Houston Renewable Energy Group.

The workshop is Sunday, August 13, from 1 to 5:30 pm at First Unitarian Universalist Church, 5200 Fannin. The public is invited; a donation of $10 is requested. For a complete list of speakers and workshops, see the conference website.
