HELP RESTORE GALVESTON BAY SATURDAY
The Galveston Bay Foundation will be helping to restore Pierce Marsh near Hitchcock on Saturday, June 3, from 8 am to 1 pm. Pierce Marsh was once valuable fish and wildlife habitat but, as a result of subsidence caused by groundwater withdrawal, large areas of the marsh have become open water. On Saturday, volunteers will replant several sites in the area in an effort to restore the habitat. Bob Stokes, president of the Galveston Bay Foundation, promises volunteers “a lot of fun” as they get wet and muddy. Volunteers must pre-register by calling (281) 332-3381, ext. 205. More information about the Galveston Bay Foundation’s activities can be found by visiting their website.
