URBAN FORESTRY SUMMIT ON MAY 11
The Houston-Galveston Area Council is teaming with the Texas Forest Service, the Houston Advanced Research Center, and the Houston Area Urban Forestry Council to host the Urban Forestry Summit 2006. This one-day workshop will be held at the Houston Arboretum, 4501 Woodway. National and local experts will address urban forestry issues that affect urban, suburban, and rural areas. Topics include Measuring the Economic Benefit of Trees, Incorporating Trees into Flood Control Structures, Preserving Trees during Residential and Commercial Development, The Role of Trees in Quality of Life Initiatives, The Importance of Tree Inventories, Developing an Effective Tree Ordinance, and Funding Tree Planting Projects. The talk is directed to municipal officials, planning and parks staff, community leaders, concerned citizens, and developers.
