Precinct 4’s Kickerillo-Mischer Preserve is an 80-acre property featuring Marshall Lake, which spans approximately 40 acres, plus a staff building, paved roads and parking lots, restroom facilities, and 1.7 miles of trails. Houston Audubon’s survey takes place on the third Tuesday of each month starting in December. Email Mary Anne Weber to be put on the notification list.

E.P.I.C. is a free service learning club for high school teens that is aimed at learning about, and solving coastal environmental problems through hands-on projects.

Mercer Botanic Gardens Volunteer Orientation @ Timber Lane Community Center

Do you want to give back to your community, need volunteer hours for school, or just love the outdoors and have an interest in Gulf Coast flora? Mercer Botanic Gardens offers a variety of volunteer opportunities at three facilities within a mile of the gardens. Join them for a volunteer orientation to discover everything they have to offer, from helping maintain their gardens, to plant propagation and sales, to educational programs and the Mercer Ambassadors. This orientation will be off site at the Timber Lane Community Center, approximately two miles from Mercer, at 1904 Naplechase Crest Drive in Spring. Participants must be 16 or older or 12-15 if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration is required, as space is limited. Registration opens at 9 a.m., Friday, Jan. 7. KPC Greenhouse Volunteers @ Memorial Park Conservancy Greenhouse

The Memorial Park Conservancy has generously offered Katy Prairie Conservancy use of their greenhouse while the Native Seed Nursery at KPC’s field office in Waller is being renovated. Volunteers will help grow plants that will be used for various Katy Prairie Conservancy spring projects and for the Great Grow Out. The Memorial Park Conservancy Greenhouse is located in Memorial Park on the south side of Memorial Drive. All are welcome, no experience necessary.

Workdays are scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

An opportunity to participate in stewardship work for registered volunteers–if you are not already a volunteer, please check out Armand Bayou Nature Centers’ website for more information.

Help restore the prairie by potting and planting native plants and forbs every Friday, rain or shine. You do not need to attend every Friday.

Audubon Bird Survey @ Hogg Bird Sanctuary

Houston Audubon is conducting a monthly survey at Hogg Bird Sanctuary. Surveys are normally scheduled for the third Saturday of the month. Everyone is welcome. Beginners, experts, or even if you’re just curious.

Everyone will meet at the parking lot at the dead end on the south end of Westcott Street at 7:30 a.m. If the gate is locked, you may park in the upper parking lot and then walk down to the lower parking lot to meet.

Houston Arboretum Bird Survey @ Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

Meet in front of the building at the Houston Arboretum.

The Third Saturday bird survey is a monthly event for experienced birders. It’s an opportunity for birders to help the Houston Arboretum keep a better record of the birds inhabiting the nature sanctuary throughout the year. Interested participants should bring binoculars, water, and their bird guides (if necessary).

Interfaith Shoreline Cleanup @ Galveston Bay Foundation

February 20th Shoreline Cleanup with GBF & IENoH
Join Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) and the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston (IENoH) on Sunday, February 20, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm to learn about plastic pollution in Galveston Bay, tips for pollution prevention, and take part in a shoreline cleanup. This event will offer activities for all ages and skill levels, so bring the whole family! Please arrive a few minutes before 2pm at Galveston Bay Foundation’s property at 1725 Highway 146, Kemah, TX 77565 to check in with staff by the entryway to the office.

Cleanup supplies will be provided but please bring a mask, sun protection, a full water bottle, and wear closed-toe shoes. There are restrooms and a water refill station in the office for guest use.
