On May 14, 2018, from 7-8:30 p.m., Mi Familia Vota and OCA-Houston will cohost a Candidate Forum for candidates in the primary runoff elections for Congressional Districts 7 and 22 and Texas State Senate District 17. Among the topics that will be addressed are the environment, immigration, education, and gun reform. Summer is around the corner! And that means swimming, boating, and fishing, all of which depend on a healthy Galveston Bay. Galveston Bay Foundation works to ensure that our Bay remains fishable and swimmable, both this summer and for many seasons to come. Join GBF to learn more about this work, current water quality findings for Galveston Bay, and what you can do to help maintain a safe and healthy Bay.

It’s Pride Week and Downtown District and BBP are raising our rainbow flags! Be entertained by the lovely Violet S’Arbleau, Miss Gay Texas America 2017, who will co-host the evening alongside John Mills McCoin, your favorite zany announcer.

Learn more about these thousands of magnificent Mexican free-tailed bats that share the city with us! Led by a “bat girl†docent, guests will enjoy an amazing view of the bats’ dusk emergence from the Waugh Drive Bridge on Buffalo Bayou.

Join the monthly meeting of the Nature Cubs Club at Sheldon Lake State Park! This club is for kids and has been created by kids. Club members will have a chance to meet other nature lovers, learn about a topic, and then explore the park together.
You should bring water, bug spray, and closed toe shoes. All programs and events are FREE and meet at the Pond Center.

For the last After Dark event of the season, we’re kickin’ it country-style.
Break out your boots and get ready to two-step and line dance to our live band, or challenge your friends to a game of cornhole or horseshoes.
Plus, see who can stay on our mechanical bull for the longest ride! Some of our favorite party animals will also visit Masihara Pavilion so guests can learn more about them and the important role we all play in saving animals in the wild.

The Federal Highway Administration accepts nominations for any project, process, group, or individuals involved in a project or process that has used FHWA funding sources to make an outstanding contribution to transportation and the environment. Any organization, agency, group, or individual in the public, private, or non-profit sectors may submit a nomination for the 2019 EEAs. Nominations for the 2019 Environmental Excellence Awards are due by September 14, 2018.

The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards honor achievements in environmental preservation and protection. As the state’s highest environmental honor, the Office of the Governor and commissioners from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality recognize outstanding projects from ten diverse categories such as agriculture, education, and youth. Since 1993, the TCEQ have honored more than 250 successful environmental projects and efforts. By honoring these winners, the TCEQ hopes to encourage others to initiate like-minded projects and reinforce a spirit of environmental stewardship. The TCEQ is accepting applications until September 28, 2018.
