Stormwater Wetland Spring Planting at Exploration Green @ Phase 1 Site
May 5 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Stormwater Wetland Spring Planting at Exploration Green @ Phase 1 Site | Houston | Texas | United States

On Mar. 24, Apr. 14 and 21 and May 5 and 19, 2018, from 9:00 am to noon, come plant the shores of Exploration Green Nature Park’s new lake. The wetland will cleanse stormwater and provide habitat for aquatic animals in the lake (which is, in fact, a nationally known flood control basin). Have fun while helping to improve water quality and create habitat! All are welcome to take part in expanding the wetland we’ve been growing and planting with the community, going on the third year. Children are welcome to participate with family members.

Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and muddy. Tools will be provided.

Parking is at 16203 Diana Ln, Houston, TX 77062.

For more information and to RSVP, visit tcwp.tamu.edu or contact Mary Carol Edwards at mcedwards@tamu.edu.

Bokashi and Vermicomposting @ Unversity of Houston Downtown
Aug 11 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am

Urban Harvest’s Waste Not, Want Not… Bokashi and Vermicomposting

Stop throwing your food scraps in the trash. Come learn the how tos and the benefits of bokashi and vermicomposting. Physical limitations, space limitations, deed restrictions – any number of things may limit a gardener’s ability to compost in bins or piles. However, ANY gardener or homeowner can practice bokashi and vermicomposting. Bokashi composting uses kitchen scraps of all kinds, including meat and dairy products, mixed with inoculated bran to make compost faster than bin composting. Vermicomposting uses composting worms to recycle kitchen, garden, and specific paper wastes. The worms turn the waste into worm castings that are nutrient rich.

Class is hosted by University of Houston/Downtown. There are no refunds on classes.

Directions: The entrance into the visitor parking garage is off Girard Street on the northwest corner of the campus. Upon entering the parking, press the button to receive an entry ticket. Parking is $8.00, except for those attending the class will have their ticket validated.
