The Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston invites you to consider the challenges and opportunities that lie before Houston, a key city in the global response to changing weather patterns, emerging economies and changing consumer preferences and needs.
In this presentation, called “Making Houston a Resilient City – How Houses of Worship Can Help,” environmental attorney Jim Blackburn will discuss the scope of current problems, some ideas to bring resilience to our community in the future, and the role of houses of worship could play in realizing this future. But, this future can only be achieved by personal commitment and action, and to reach it, we all are going to have to come together and act for the common good, a great challenge for the faith community.

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is holding eight public hearings and a webinar to solicit public comments on Draft Amendment 9 – Coral Habitat Areas Considered for Management in the Gulf of Mexico. The Council is currently considering creating several new coral habitat areas of particular concern in the Gulf of Mexico.

All are welcome to Houston Renewable Energy Group’s monthly meetings! They will have a presentation on an interesting aspect of renewable energy in Houston, review HREG business, progress, and plan events. After the meeting, they usually spend some time socializing and finding out what is happening on the renewable scene in Houston from each other. Monthly Meetings are the best place for members to learn about HREG, ask questions, and provide suggestions.

On May 24, 2018, beginning at 7 p.m., The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. will host a free Going Green Sustainability Lecture titled “Regional Water Planning; What Is It And Why Is It Important To Me?†at the offices of the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), 8801 Gosling Road. Jason Afinowicz, P.E., an associate and project manager with the engineering firm Freese and Nichols, who is managing the development of the Region H long-range water plan, will be the guest speaker. There is no registration fee. The lunch menu is buffet style, and the South Texas Section subsidizes lunch cost by $5 per attendee. STS members as well as non-members are welcome to attend. They only request that you pre-register at the STS-AIChE.org website so they can get an accurate head count for the restaurant.
On June 2, 2018, from 9-10:30 a.m., Artist Boat will share the full vision for the Coastal Heritage Preserve and the Gulf Coast Educational Center.  Artist Boat will present the public education and access plan, habitat management plan, and accomplishments to date of the Coastal Heritage Preserve.  Learn more about the status of the remaining acreage of Marquette and Anchor Bay still at stake for future development. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in cooperation with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), federal, state and Harris County agencies, local officials and industry, invites area community members and stakeholders to attend the community meeting for the San Jacinto River Waste Pits Superfund site.
This meeting will provide the opportunity to ask questions about site activities, the remedial design, the selected remedy, and the remediation process.
