TWA’s Youth Videoconferencing is:

  • Free, interactive, curriculum-enhancing, natural resource programs
  • Designed for Grades 1-6, TEKS-aligned K-8
  • 45 minute programs (includes student Q&A)
  • TEKS aligned post activities and worksheets

Registration closes one week prior to program date. Each program time has 4 Interactive and 50 Non-interactive spots available.

2018 Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) Course @ Blackwood Educational Land Institute

BE BETTER PREPARED FOR AN EMERGENCY!

Recognizing life-threatening medical symptoms for kids and adults is crucial for any parent, professional or concerned citizen. As outdoor educators and farmers at Blackwood Land, we believe this knowledge is invaluable whether you live in an urban area or leading a trip into the wilderness. In this course, offered by the prestigious Wilderness Medical Associates, you will:

  • Manage medical emergencies when hospitals and rescue services may not be available.
  • Learn from medical professionals with significant patient care and backcountry experience.
  • Be prepared for emergencies that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments, and improvised equipment.
  • Have fun while developing confidence in your ability to care for emergencies

Course fee: $495 (lunch included)

Outreach Teacher Workshop @ Houston Zoo

Outreach Teacher Workshops are six (6) hour hands-on trainings that introduce attendees to the Texas Wildlife Association, in-class and outdoor L.A.N.D.S. Outreach lessons and activities, and how to incorporate natural resources into classrooms or programming.  Lessons focus on teaching land stewardship, native wildlife, and water conservation and are TEKS-aligned.  This workshop is ideal for educators grades K-8 (ages 5-14) and is completely FREE!  All educators who attend and complete the workshop will receive six (6) CPE hours. 

Public Meeting for Coastal Heritage Preserve @ Galveston Country Club

On June 2, 2018, from 9-10:30 a.m., Artist Boat will share the full vision for the Coastal Heritage Preserve and the Gulf Coast Educational Center.  Artist Boat will present the public education and access plan, habitat management plan, and accomplishments to date of the Coastal Heritage Preserve.  Learn more about the status of the remaining acreage of Marquette and Anchor Bay still at stake for future development. EPA San Jacinto River Waste Pits public meeting @ The Highlands Community Center
Jun 5 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in cooperation with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), federal, state and Harris County agencies, local officials and industry, invites area community members and stakeholders to attend the community meeting for the San Jacinto River Waste Pits Superfund site.

This meeting will provide the opportunity to ask questions about site activities, the remedial design, the selected remedy, and the remediation process.

The meeting is being held in a fully accessible facility. For specific needs or questions about the facility, please contact EPA Community Involvement Coordinator, Janetta Coats, at 1-800-533-3508 (toll-free).
