This is not an Armand Bayou Nature Center event but is done in partnership with the Houston Audubon Society. The Audubon Society invites birders of all ages and skill levels to participate in this international event. Birders will rise with the sun and spend one day counting every bird they see. This is the largest avian census and not possible without volunteers just like you!
Armand Bayou Nature and Houston Audubon Society also need lots of feeder watchers within the circle so if you can’t make all day and would still like to participate, please sign up to be a backyard feeder watcher/counter, at the same email address.

Give the gift of water conservation this holiday season! Rain barrels conserve water and reduce stormwater runoff, pollution, and bacteria entering Galveston Bay. They also make thoughtful and affordable gifts for the environmentalist in your life.
Galveston Bay Foundation’s Rain Barrel Program is sponsored by LyondellBasell and Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. This workshop will consist of a virtual presentation via Zoom on the environmental benefits of collecting rainwater, as well as proper rain barrel preparation, installation instructions and tips. Rain barrels and kits for registered participants will be available for safe, drive-thru pickup on 12/19/2020 between the hours of 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Galveston Bay Foundation Office (1725 Highway 146, Kemah, TX 77565).
Cost: $35 (includes 1 barrel + 1 kit, admission to the workshop for yourself and one guest) Workshop participants can purchase a maximum of 2 barrels + 2 kits. All sales are final, and we cannot accommodate refunds. If you miss your scheduled pickup/workshop for any reason you will be able to pickup/participate in the next scheduled workshop.

Virtually WILD! Texas – students can interact LIVE with scientists & conservationists across the region. See archived videos on the Facebook page. The program lasts 45 minutes, and occurs twice a day. Check the website for specific times (they vary).
Grade Levels: This program is planned at a 3rd – 5th grade level, but participants of all ages will gain useful information.

- 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm: Mid-Main Night Market at 3500-3700 Main Street (first Thursdays)
Volunteers meet the second and fourth Thursday of every month to propagate plants from locally collected native seed. A typical workday may include seeding pots, bumping up trays into 1-gallon containers, separating seedlings, and weeding pots. They will also have special seed collecting trips, invasive species removal workdays, and planting events in restored prairies.
