Held on the “2nd Saturdays†of each month, they will enjoy a delicious vegan potluck and meeting, along with a discussion, film screening, food demo or speaker presentation on intersectional issues of veganism, animal rights, environmentalism, nonviolence, health and more. Each month will be something new! Their new venue is at the HCC Conference Center.
They are asking for a donation of $5 per person to help cover our facility rental expenses. All attendees must bring a vegan entree to share at the potluck (serving size to feed 10 people)!
Please remember to bring a vegan dish to share with the group! Their events are always vegan, so please only vegan or raw vegan foods (no animal-derived ingredients). Also bring reusable dinnerware and plates to keep the event earth-friendly. If you have questions on ingredients, feel free to contact them.
They will also feature a new discussion topic on inter sectional issues each month, such as: animal rights, ethical vegan living, vegan health & nutrition, cooking, world hunger solutions, eco-friendly living, nonviolence and more! Some months will also include film screenings and/or guest speakers and food demos.
Houston Community College Conference Center is located at 3100 Main St, 3rd Floor, Houston, TX 77002. See below for map. Free Parking is available on level 7 & 8 of the HCC Administration parking garage at Main & Elgin. Use elevator from parking garage to 3rd floor breezeway, which leads to the Conference suites. You must enter the building through the parking garage and not street-level.

Houston Public Works is currently a host of Project WET (Water Education for Teachers)! This educator workshop will help teach all levels, formal and informal, on diverse water topics that educators can use to reach children with objective, experiential, science-based water education. Project WET is a world leader in developing interdisciplinary, hands-on activities to integrate knowledge of water resources and issues into K-12 classrooms, using simulations and critical thinking skills at the core of Next Generation Science Standards. TXAEYC theme this year is “Taking Learning Outdoors!†Being outside allows children to express themselves freely and unlike an indoor classroom, there aren’t any space constraints meaning children can jump, shout and explore to their hearts content. The sense of freedom playing outdoors brings is fantastic for a child’s development, both physically and mentally. Join us for our conference and help us in promoting “Healthy Beginningsâ€.

Pre K- 8 grade teachers interested in learning about forest ecosystems, water, wildlife, and conservation education topics in a fun, hands-on professional development program.
Interact with foresters, biologists, educators, and forest industry professionals who care for forest lands and make wood products that we use every day.
Receive Project Learning Tree Pre K-8 educator certification and teacher guide.
Hands-on learning will include resources and activities that you can bring to life in your
classroom or school yard through citizen science, STEM, career exploration, and field study. 14 hours SBEC CPE and TEEAC credit.

Day 1: E.O. Siecke State Forest (Call, TX near Kirbyville) – 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
– Learn about Texas forest ecosystems, habitat management, forest hydrology, fire ecology and animal and plant functions and structures, nature journals, water cycles, and more.
– Receive training in Project Learning Tree’s interdisciplinary environmental education curriculum.
Day 2: E.O. Siecke State Forest (Call, TX near Kirbyville), meet and begin tours – 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
– Tree Life Cycle field sites: tour a working forest, a timber operation, and WestRock paper mill.

Format: 10 minute presentation on local topic, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A and community-building time. The sessions are offered at two times on the same day (10 a.m. and 3 p.m.) to ensure smaller groups and more opportunity to connect with fellow environmental educators in Houston.
