As part of Mercer Botanic Gardens’ Pollinator Festival and Fall Plant Sale on Saturday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., individuals and groups are invited to create a pollinator-related scarecrow for display in the gardens from Saturday, October 6 to Wednesday, October 31.
Entry forms are available at hcp4.net. Forms also available at Mercer Botanic Gardens on the Visitor’s Center table. All entrants will be contacted by Mercer upon receipt of the form.

Join the Houston Renewable Energy Group (HREG) at IKEA in conjunction with Drive Electric Week and the Houston Electric Auto Association to experience many different types of electric vehicles on display. In addition to seeing the EVs, there will be 3 tours of IKEA’s 3000-panel, 813 kW solar generation plant (on the roof), one starting approximately every hour.
The National Drive Electric Week is seeking volunteers for this event.

In this class you will learn to identify hawks, from the small American Kestrel to the majestic Bald Eagle, and you will learn how and why hawks migrate. Houston is located along a major flyway: you will take advantage of this by spending time in the field practicing identifying hawks in flight as they pass through on their way from their breeding grounds in Northern Canada and Alaska to their wintering grounds in Central and South America.
Comes with a field trip for Saturday, Septemeber 22, 7:30am-4:00pm

The Mason Park Bridge Grand Opening is a fun, free family event celebrating the opening of the Mason Park Bridge across Brays Bayou. To celebrate the new 485ft-long, 16ft-wide pedestrian/bike suspension bridge, Houstonians are invited to participate in a free 5K walk/run at 8 a.m. and join the “Picnic in the Park†that follows starting at 10 a.m.
A part of Bayou Greenways 2020, this exciting event will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Come to celebrate Houston’s newest signature bridge along the bayou connecting communities in the East End.
8:00 a.m. 5k Fun Run, participants are encouraged to register in advance.
10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Picnic in the Park with live music and family-and-kid games and activities, then Official Ribbon Cutting from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. with Mayor Sylvester Turner and other notable guests
Join Wild & Scenic Rivers Council, together with other partners like American Rivers and the River Management Society for a weekend of free events as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. The Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River has three canyons and runs for 196 miles along the Mexican border. This rural area of the country has beautiful birding and is best accessed by canoe or raft. Celebrations will include the Grand Re-Opening of the Rio Grande Village Visitor Center, a 50th Anniversary party and free rangers talks and tours.
