BBP Gala: Color Outside the Lines @ Sabine Street Bridge

The 2018 Buffalo Bayou Partnership (BBP) Gala will be taking place on Thursday, November 8 from 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Historic Sabine Street Bridge. This year, BBP is honoring the many contributions of Judy Nyquist and Geraldina Wise to Buffalo Bayou Partnership and to the vitality and creativity of Houston.

Proceeds from this important fundraising event allow Buffalo Bayou Partnership to continue transforming, activating and maintaining Buffalo Bayou along the 10-mile stretch from Shepherd Drive to the Port of Houston Turning Basin.

Tables for ten guests are: $25,000; $15,000; $10,000 and $6,000. Individual tickets are:  $1,500; $1,000 and $600.

Mercer Society’s 1st Annual Camellia Sale @ Mercer Society

Artist Boat’s Float the Boat Fundraiser and Gala @ The Trolley Station

Come celebrate Artist Boat’s 15th birthday! Artist Boat is thrilled to have served over 100,000 participants and to have conserved 669 acres of land on Galveston Island. At the annual Float the Boat Fundraiser and Gala, Artist Boat will honor Sheridan Mitchell Lorenz. The fundraiser will also feature a kayak raffle, auction, and more.

Bayou Land Conservancy’s “Land Lover Gala” @ Southwestern Energy

Saturday, November 10th the Bayou Land Conservancy (BLC) will celebrate 22 years
of preserving Texas, for Texans, at a Land Lover Gala hosted by Southwestern Energy
at 10000 Energy Drive in Spring, south of The Woodlands. SWN is providing space for the event and also a Lake Houston sponsorship to support the mission of BLC.

Keynote speaker will be acclaimed Director of the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores, Dr. Sam Brody, a Regents Professor and holder of the George P. Mitchell Chair in Sustainable Coasts in the Department of Marine Sciences and Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University.  Dr. Brody’s research focuses on coastal environmental planning, spatial analysis, flood mitigation, climate change policy, and natural hazards mitigation. He has published numerous scientific articles on flood risk and mitigation, and recently authored the book, Rising Waters:
The causes and consequences of flooding in the United States.

Holiday in the Gardens and Winter Plant Sale @ Mercer Botanic Gardens

Celebrate the holiday season with music, food, crafts, shopping, and more during Holiday in the Gardens at Mercer Botanic Gardens. This family-oriented event offers a holiday market, winter plant sale, and a Children’s Corner. Attractions include face painting, a visit from Santa, and holiday-themed crafts. Entrance is free, and children’s activities are available while supplies last. Food, drinks, and holiday gifts are available for purchase.

Volunteers needed! Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Mercer’s Volunteer Coordinator Jamie Hartwell. New volunteers must complete a volunteer application, available at hcp4.net.

Eco-Art Winter Camp @ Artist Boat Office
Jan 2 – Jan 4 all-day

Artist BoatArtist Boat is a regional leader in eco-art to inspire people to conserve our Gulf Coast. Art meets science in Artist Boat’s Eco-Art Camp sessions. Campers will experience true science and art enrichment with the creation of Eco-Art. Each camper will create high quality art projects which illustrate all that they have learned throughout the camp.

Shark Mania – Jan 2 (9am-4pm)
Many sharks inhabit the Gulf of Mexico and we will learn about their habits and hangouts. Special works in masks and collage!

Fish Frenzy – Jan 3 (9am-4pm)
Learn about how ocean organisms feed and what they eat! We will learn about adaptions for survival and create our own special works of freaky ocean organism art with ink printing and chalk pastel.

Off The Deep End – Jan 4 (9am-4pm)
Investigate the invertebrates of the sea including jellyfish, crab, shrimp, squids, and more! Special works on canvas and paper.

Special story time guests during lunch hour. Campers are asked to bring snacks, a water bottle and lunch for the all day fun.

Wetlands Winter Camp (1st-3rd grade) @ Baytown Nature Center
Jan 2 @ 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

From Jan. 2- 4, 2018, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day, dance along to the beat as Baytown Nature Center takes a journey to the Antarctic. Discover how animals adapt to living in the cold and how we all impact their habitat from right here in Texas. Conclude camp enjoying snow just like the penguins.

Registration opens on Dec. 3, 2018.

Bring a sack lunch and reusable water bottle each day.

Holiday Break Camp – “Winter in the Woods” @ Edith L. Moore Natural Sanctuary_
Jan 2 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Let the winter adventures begin! Discover how woodland creatures adapt to cooler weather. Seek out animal tracks and clues along the trails and creek banks. Learn winter survival skills. Make cozy dens for education animals. Create nature crafts and science projects to take home, including snow slime.

Ages: 5-10 years old
Fee: $100 per child ($90 for 2nd child in same family)

Come unravel nature’s mysteries as Houston Arboretum explores creatures of the night, creepy crawlies and the folklore that surrounds them. Learn about bats, owls and other mysterious creatures of the animal world. Live animal encounters, outdoor games, nature hikes, and lots of hands-on fun science activities are always a part of the Arboretum experience. Winter Camp is for explorers ages 4 to 12.
