All About Central City Co-Op

In September 2001, Jennifer Georgantas and Pat Greer dreamed of a community of people joining together each week around healthy, earth-friendly food. This dream became a reality 15 years ago with the founding of Central City Co-Op, Houston’s very first organic co-op.

Organic Produce, Organic Community
Our mission is to support sustainable, chemical free farming practices through offering both 1) sustainably raised local and 2) certified USDA organic national produce and farm goods to our community at the fairest prices possible.

Everything we carry on our shelves and stock in our shares is either locally, sustainably grown by farmers we know or is nationally-certified USDA organic. Both are great options for you and for our planet!

Central City Co-Op also provides a space for individuals to come together as a community. We support every member of our community in their journey to learn more about where their food comes from, how it’s produced, and how the local economy is impacted by food choices.

In short, we make our best effort to feature produce from local sources that embrace compassionate and chemical-free growing—and the little that isn’t local is still nationally-certified USDA organic. We believe everyone should have access to organic produce at reasonable prices.

  • Jan. 31
  • Feb. 14 (Sweetheart Market theme)
  • Feb. 28 (to be held in Wilhelmina’s Grove with a Rodeo Houston theme)
  • March 21
  • April 4
  • April 18 (in conjunction with Sustainability Week)
  • May 2

The UH Farmers Market allows students, staff and faculty to shop for locally sourced and produced food items without having to leave campus. Several new features are being added for the spring, one of which is a new payment option that will allow students to use Cougar Cash to purchase $1 “Cougar Cash Coins” that can be used at any of the vendor tables.

Also, a rotating selection of non-food vendors will be joining the mix, and UH Dining will have little surprises at each of the markets, such as barbecue plates for sale on Feb. 28 and Valentine’s Day treats on Feb. 14.

“We will continue to seek ways to grow the market and make it self-sustaining so that it can be a part of the campus culture for years to come,” Ross said.

Woodlands Farmers Market @ Grogan's Mill Center
Apr 21 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

farmers market.pngThe Woodlands Farmer’s Market at Grogan’s Mill was established in 2008 as “The Grogan’s Mill Farmer’s Market,” a weekly community event sponsored by the Grogan’s Mill Village Association.  The Market is open Saturdays from 8 am – 12 pm at the Grogan’s Mill Center.  The market typically closes only one Saturday during the year, the Saturday between Christmas and New Year’s Day.  If you drive to the market you will find the village center has plenty of parking.  If you choose to walk or ride your bike, it is located just off of the Mill Bend Trail with direct access under Grogan’s Mill Rd.

The Market adheres to high standards requiring that all agricultural and artisan vendors grow or produce the good they sell.  Each of the prepared food vendors is required to use a commercial kitchen when preparing their product.

Profits from our Market are returned to the community through the Grogan’s Mill Village Association’s philanthropic programs. These programs include but are not limited to, college scholarships from, support of CISD schools and Good Citizen Awards.
