During the event, Harriet & Truett Latimer will accept Preservation Houston’s 2019 President’s Award for their outstanding contributions to historic preservation in Houston and Texas. Preservation Houston hopes that you will share the excitement as they present the 2019 Good Brick Awards for excellence in historic preservation, recognizing the diverse people and projects that continue to make our city unique.
A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the program will start at 7:30 p.m. at River Oaks Country Club. Reservations are required.
Naturalists use a variety of tools to explore the natural world, but most rely on the tools we are all born with: our senses! Children will explore their own senses and then discover which animals taste through their feet, which have natural radar, which can locate prey by sensing heat, and which have eyes that contain 30,000 lenses. Join the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center for a week of sensory exploration.
Let your imagination soar into this high flying week of exploration. Campers will build water rockets, kites, and more as they discover objects in flight. Are you ready to hop into the pilot’s seat? Each camp-day will be from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. BNC’s Spring Break Camp is dedicated for students grade 4-6. Registration begins Feb. 1, 2019.
HackHouston 2019 is a 24 hour event at Texas Southern University where hundreds of TECH and NON-TECH students will come together to brainstorm ideas, build software/hardware projects, and most of all, HAVE FUN! The Houston Hackathon is a “civic” hackathon to solve problems that affect the greater public—such as traffic information, voter registration, or recycling programs, just to name a few. The Bayou Preservation Association presents the 9th Annual Terry Hershey Bayou Stewardship Awards, honoring individuals for their outstanding commitment to aiding in the conservation, preservation, restoration or advocacy of Houston’s waterways. Join us for the 2019 Terry Hershey Bayou Stewardship Award Luncheon honoring Mayor Sylvester Turner, Kevin Shanley and Jackie Young, with a special recognition award to Ed Emmett.
The Our Great Region Awards recognize outstanding organizations in the 13-county region working to make the region an even better place to live, work, and prosper. Submitted projects must advance one or more of the Our Great Region 2040 plan’s Big Ideas. For more information on how to register visit www.ourregion.org/awards.
The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards is an annual awards program that honors achievements in environmental preservation and protection. There are ten diverse award categories that provide citizens, communities, businesses, and organizations an opportunity to obtain the state’s highest environmental honor and be recognized for their environmental projects. The deadline for submission is September 27th.
Since 1993, they have honored more than 250 successful environmental projects and efforts. By honoring these winners, the TCEQ hopes to encourage others to initiate like-minded projects and reinforce a spirit of environmental stewardship. These are the categories:
