Artist Boat’s Float the Boat Fundraiser and Gala @ The Trolley Station

Come celebrate Artist Boat’s 15th birthday! Artist Boat is thrilled to have served over 100,000 participants and to have conserved 669 acres of land on Galveston Island. At the annual Float the Boat Fundraiser and Gala, Artist Boat will honor Sheridan Mitchell Lorenz. The fundraiser will also feature a kayak raffle, auction, and more.

Bayou Land Conservancy’s “Land Lover Gala” @ Southwestern Energy

Saturday, November 10th the Bayou Land Conservancy (BLC) will celebrate 22 years
of preserving Texas, for Texans, at a Land Lover Gala hosted by Southwestern Energy
at 10000 Energy Drive in Spring, south of The Woodlands. SWN is providing space for the event and also a Lake Houston sponsorship to support the mission of BLC.

Keynote speaker will be acclaimed Director of the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores, Dr. Sam Brody, a Regents Professor and holder of the George P. Mitchell Chair in Sustainable Coasts in the Department of Marine Sciences and Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University.  Dr. Brody’s research focuses on coastal environmental planning, spatial analysis, flood mitigation, climate change policy, and natural hazards mitigation. He has published numerous scientific articles on flood risk and mitigation, and recently authored the book, Rising Waters:
The causes and consequences of flooding in the United States.

KPB’s Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner @ Pearland Lions Club

Keep Pearland Beautiful’s Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner, including the annual report, is a great chance for members of KPB and residents to join in a celebration of all that KPB has accomplished throughout the year. Guest speaker, Shanna Lopez, from Waste Management will speak on the State of Recycling during this uncertain time in the recycling industry and what you can do as residents to improve recycling at home and the workplace.

Prairie Stampede: Awards Potluck @ Houston Zoo - Brown Education Center

Image result for hnpatThe Houston Zoo has extremely generously donated the use of the Brown Education Center for the annual HNPAT & CPP (Coastal Prairie Partnership) Prairie Stampede – the Awards Potluck. More information, including a signup sheet for the potluck, will be coming about this event. Some of the awards to be presented are:

Dick Benoit Upper Texas Coast Prairie Award – This award recognizes someone from the Upper Texas Coast area, oftentimes Greater Houston, who is contributing to coastal prairie conservation, education, etc. This award is for recent work not a career of achievement. This award is voted on by the general public. Send nominations to prairiepartner@gmail.com.

Prairie Excellence Award – This award recognizes career achievement in coastal prairie conservation. This award is selected by the CPP Board. The CPP board will gladly take suggestions for this award. Send suggestions to prairiepartner@gmail.com.

Deadline: Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence

Applications are being accepted for the Ruder Bruner Award for Urban Excellence, a national design award celebrating transformative places that contribute to the economic, environmental, and social vitality of American cities. One Gold Medal ($50,000 cash award) and four Silver Medals ($10,000 cash award) are awarded each biennial. To be eligible, projects must be urban, built, and located within the contiguous United States. Applications may be submitted by anyone involved with the project. The deadline to submit applications is Dec. 12, 2018.

EmpowerE wants to go beyond the formal education system and begin educating ourselves and others around us about what we all can do to better the planet. See the truth of the current state of our Earth and change the way we live. If we can minimize or reduce our use and waste, we will be able to mitigate many of the world’s major problems like pollution, climate change, hunger, poverty, and diseases, to name a few.

Deadline: Keep Texas Beautiful Awards Judging

Image result for keep texas beautifulThere will be a mandatory judging webinar that will take place on Feb. 20, 2019 at 12:30pm. If judges are unable to make this webinar, it will be recorded and judges will need to watch it before judging takes place. Governor’s Community Achievement Awards and Keep Texas Beautiful Awards judging will take place Thursday, Feb. 28 and Friday, Mar. 1, 2019 in Austin, TX. Lunch will be provided on both days of judging. The date for judging Youth Awards is still being determined. The deadline to submit your application for consideration is Jan. 18, 2019.

Nominees can be from the nonprofit, public or private sectors. Please submit nominations by 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 23, 2019.
