Attwater Prairie Chicken Festival is the annual celebration of the Attwater’s prairie-chicken and the native coastal prairie that the iconic bird calls home.
Early morning van tours will take participants up to one of the booming grounds to watch the male prairie chicken’s famous courtship dance. Other events this weekend include wildflower and native plant guided tours, bird walks and birding van tours with experienced birders, refuge management tours and a merchandise booth sponsored by the Friends of Attwater Prairie Chicken Refuge.
Sturdy shoes, drinking water, binoculars and/or spotting scopes and field guides are recommended.

On Tuesday, April 17th, HARC will continue its People & Nature Speaker Series featuring an evening with Rear Admiral Jonathan White, United States Navy (Retired), CEO and President of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership (COL). Admiral White will discuss climate and ocean issues in the context of national security, energy and economic prosperity with a focus on opportunities and solutions for the future. The event, held at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Brown Auditorium, will begin at 6:00 pm. Guests are invited to continue the conversation at a post-event reception.

Interested in joining the McGovern Centennial Gardens volunteer team? Anyone who loves to be outdoors and is interested in becoming a regular volunteer in McGovern Centennial Gardens should attend an upcoming orientation. Join Hermann Park Conservancy on Wednesday, April 18 from 9:30-10:30 to learn about volunteer opportunities and the history of Hermann Park Conservancy. Following the orientation, there will be a short tour of the Gardens. The address for McGovern Centennial Gardens is 1500 Hermann Drive. Park in Lot C at the Crawford Street/Hermann Drive intersection. Meet in the Family Garden in the McGovern Centennial Gardens. If you need help finding the garden that morning, call 832-470-9871. Migration Celebration is held annually in April in southern Brazoria County, Texas, sponsored by the Friends of the Brazoria Wildlife Refuges in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Texas Mid-Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The Kickoff Dinner will be held on Apr. 13, 2018, and the 24th Annual Migration Celebration will be held on Apr. 21 and 22.
Migration Celebration activities are centered on the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge but formally starts with a fundraising dinner and featured speaker at Freeport RiverPlace located in the Freeport Municipal Park.
Migration Celebration’s events and presentations are designed for the introductory level but still keeps some focus on birds with our Birds of Prey programs and the San Bernard Oak Trail tours.
With the exception of fundraising activities, all other Migration Celebration events, tours, presentations, and other activities are free to the public. This is made possible by the generous donations of time and money by our sponsors, partner organizations, and volunteers.

Attendees need to bring their own bicycle. We encourage everyone to wear a helmet. If you do not have your own bicycle, you can rent a bike from Houston B-Cycle. Nearest stations are located at Holman & Main (HCC/Ensemble Metro Station) or Holman & Live Oak (Project Row Houses).
This tour will meet in front of the Houston Community College “Central Campus” sign at 1300 Holman Street.

Explore the city from a vantage point most people don’t see: the waterway that gave Houston life and has been its backbone for 175 years. Architecture Center Houston (ArCH), with the cooperation of Buffalo Bayou Partnership, invite you to a stroll along Buffalo Bayou Parkway for an overview of downtown Houston’s history and architecture from its beginnings in 1836 to the efforts to revitalize the central city today. The tour showcases the innovative bayou reclamation efforts of the City of Houston, Harris County, and Buffalo Bayou Partnership, while topically discussing history and preservation, contemporary architecture, the bayou, and adjacent parkland.
