Direct Energy’s Concert Featuring Casey James @ Levy Park
Feb 10 all-day

Direct Energy is the presenting sponsor for a free concert at Levy Park on Saturday, Feb. 10, featuring Texas country and blues musician and former American Idol finalist Casey James from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. performing on the Pavilion Stage. Two other concerts earlier in the day will precede the headliner.

About Casey James

James played local venues for 11 years before he was “discovered” on American Idol in 2010. After placing third on the once popular television show, he was signed to Sony Music Nashville, and co-produced his debut album which landed at number two on the U.S. country chart. His first single went top 20 on the country charts, and his follow-up single went top 15.

While touring extensively on his own, James also landed the opening slot for Sugarlands’ “Incredible Machine” tour, Alan Jackson, and Taylor Swifts’ “Red” tour. He has several successful album releases, including the latest, “Strip it Down,” which has a bluesy, soulful feel.

HEADLINERS Del Toro Richardson and Greenleaf

Kicking things off at 12:30 p.m. is Jonn “Del Toro” Richardson, while the Diunna Greenleaf Band performs from 3 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., both from the Houston Blues Society and sponsored by the Levy Park Conservancy. In 2017, Del Toro Richardson won the Blues Music Award from The Blues Foundation for Best New Artist Debut Award for “Tengo Blues.” Greenleaf is a blues musician and songwriter, who has won several music awards and has performed on the international stage with her backing band, Blue Mercy.

Food Pop-Up by Tim Love

Texas-based celebrity chef Tim Love (who will open his flagship restaurant Woodshed at Levy Park in late 2018) and his team are providing delectable food offerings and beverages Saturday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., in addition to Friday from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Some of the items available include elotes, crispy sprouts, chile parm chips, pulled pork sandy, shaved pastrami sandwich, griddled dog, Texas red elk chili dog, along with beer, wine, mixed drinks, sodas, and water. Come and get a taste of Chef Love’s offerings all weekend long.

More Fun-Filled Amenities!

Guests are invited to come out earlier in the day to enjoy a good workout with and Joy Yoga at 10 a.m. People can always enjoy other park amenities, including imagination playground blocks, arts and games carts, corn hole, children’s play area, dog parks, ping pong and much more.

Family Commons Picnic @ Hermann Park

Exciting improvements are coming to the corner of Fannin and Cambridge Streets to be known as the Hermann Park Family Commons. Join the Hermann Park Conservancy for a fun day in the park, where you can learn about the development of and provide feedback to renovations in this area of the park.

Conservancy staff will be on hand to share preliminary ideas for the Hermann Park Family Commons and take your questions and feedback. Food trucks and family-friendly activities will also be present. You are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy with your friends and family.

The Hermann Park Family Commons is located at the intersection of Fannin and Cambridge Streets, near the Buddy Carruth Playground for All Children and the Fannin Picnic Pavilion. This event is free and open to the public. Concessions will be available for purchase. Free parking is available in Parking Lot S, located next to Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church. For a detailed map, click here. You may also get to the Family Commons by taking METRORail and getting off at the Hermann Park/Rice U stop or by utilizing the Hermann Park Railroad.
