FORT BEND GREEN INITIATIVE FORMED

The Fort Bend Green Initiative was established in March to promote and educate about environmental responsibility throughout Fort Bend County. The group’s belief is that people will do the right thing when given trustworthy information, expert training and simple tools to help reduce their carbon footprint. Their first event, held in connection with local Democratic Party groups, will be a forum on global warming. The speakers are: Gary Dunham from Al Gore’s Climate Project; LaVerne Williams, founder and CEO of Environment Associates, who will give a presentation about what happens if our area is hit with a category 4-5 hurricane and share tips on how to make your home more energy efficient; and George Batten, executive committee member for the Sierra Club, who will speak on several issues of concern to Fort Bend County. Ella Tyler of Citizens Environmental Coalition will moderate. The forum is Sat, June 9, at the First Colony Library, 2121 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land, from 10 am to 12:30 pm.
