Description: City of Houston Planning Director Marlene Gafrick and Chief Development Officer Andy Icken have presented options for the proposed Residential Buffering Ordinance, formerly called the High Density Ordinance, which will impact residential neighborhoods throughout Houston. The presentation was given this morning during the meeting of the City Council Development & Regulatory Affairs Committee.

The ordinance would create buffered areas between low-density, single-family residential neighborhoods and adjacent high-density development that is 75 feet (approximately seven stories) or taller. The City would not require any buffers between buildings under 75 feet tall and adjacent single-family homes. Although planning officials presented three proposals, the Planning Commission has already voted to recommend one option.

Gafrick and Icken will present the options again during the public meeting of the Super Neighborhood Alliance at 6:30 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2011 at City Hall. If the Super Neighborhoods Alliance has a clear preference, work will formally begin on the ordinance.
