Segment E of Grand Parkway recently received the Corps of Engineers wetlands permit, which is cause for concern for the Sierra Club and other environmentalists. Brandt Mannchen of the Sierra Club is asking TxDOT and the Grand Parkway to assess the environmental impact in certain sections of the city. Mannchen’s largest concern is for the Katy Prairie wetlands. His hope is to proceed with his lawsuit and stop the remainder of the Grand Parkway.

The paper mill waste that has polluted the San Jacinto River for decades has been capped and sealed. However, another site, not far from the paper mill, has been found to contain dioxins and other toxic chemicals. This discovery means that there may be more that one source of the San Jacinto’s toxins.

Three brothers in Austin, Christian, Joseph and Patrick Lane, are in the process of opening up a new grocery store in Austin. This store will be the first “zero-waste, package-free†grocery store in the nation that will sell all of its goods in bulk. They are taking the meaning of green to a whole new level.
