Meet Sarah Grifaldo and Kelsey Rogers: CEC Fall 2025 interns
By Sarah Grifaldo and Kelsey Rogers
Hello CEC members and newsletter subscribers. My name is Sarah Grifaldo. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I attended the University of Houston and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Minor in Law and Policy. My position is funded through the Engaging Diverse Communities in Conservation grant acquired by Bayou Preservation Association.
I have been passionate about the environment and fascinated with the earth since I was very young. I am working to promote Citizens’ Environmental Coalition’s member organizations through communications and social media, including but not limited to those organizations who also have water stewards provided by the Engaging Diverse Communities in Conservation grant: Bayou Preservation Association, Greens Bayou Coalition and White Oak Bayou Association. I also table at community events in underserved communities to inform them about CEC’s mission, provide information about member organizations, and help community members access resources related to environmental concerns in their communities. Other things I am working on include promoting the Wild and Scenic Film Festival, developing letters and other written materials that can be used for education and outreach, increasing newsletter subscriptions, and recruiting organizations to become CEC members.
In the future, I hope to work within the field of environmental science and am currently attending Lone Star College in order to complete prerequisites for graduate school.
In my free time I enjoy volunteering and engaging in advocacy work. I also love playing tennis, volleyball, and crafting.
Hi, my name is Kelsey Rogers. I am from Beaumont, Texas, and am a senior at the University of Houston, majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Political Science. I will be graduating in Spring 2026 with my bachelor’s degree. After graduation, I plan to go to law school in Fall 2027 to pursue a career as a Criminal Defense Attorney.
I am interning with Citizens’ Environmental Coalition through the Hobby School of Public Affairs CHIP program. My goal in participating in this internship is to be a part of making the environment in Harris County a safer place so all its residents can live and thrive without the threat of toxins undermining their health and communities. I am also hoping to learn more about working in a non-profit and to gain some insight into how to achieve long-lasting wins for our environment and health.
I have worked closely with board members of the CEC to create social media posts for events that we host and attended Houston Energy and Climate Week, where I helped inform attendees about CEC’s work. I have also worked on helping put together various outreach documents.
In my free time I enjoy participating in activities with campus organizations I belong to: Girl Gains, Au Fiat Civics Club, and Women of Gold. I also enjoy hanging out with friends, finding new hobbies (I’m currently exploring crocheting and building Lego sets), listening to K-pop, and curling up in bed to read a good book.
