Job Description

A Knowledge Center for Coastal Resilience Action and Innovation

The Vision Galveston initiative of “Green Galveston” seeks to integrate nature in more Galveston environments, including parks, open space, and public rights-of-way through new development and redevelopment. Through collaborative efforts, the Director of Green Galveston Initiatives will help support efforts for coastal resilience, innovation, climate change responsiveness, and environmental impacts on Galveston.

I. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Green Galveston initiative includes recommendations for coastal resilience, coastal protection, comprehensive drainage, green infrastructure, joining regional/global networks addressing climate change responsiveness, and more. In conjunction with topic-specific experts, the Director of Green Galveston Initiatives is responsible for ensuring that the Green Galveston recommendations and demonstration concepts are executed at the highest level and fulfill the aspirations established by the organization.

Additionally, the Director of Green Galveston Initiatives will coordinate redeveloping current park improvement projects. The Director of Green Galveston Initiatives will report directly to the CEO.

II.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Leads and directs the work of outside professionals engaged in the design and construction of demonstration projects and the more extensive green network planning process.
* Works directly with stakeholders and other organizations to ensure a solid understanding and partnership agreement on green-focused projects.

* Maintains active, critical partnerships with the City of Galveston and other entities to support green- related programs and projects.
* Fosters a collaborative professional working relationship with the Green Galveston action team, including Vision Galveston staff and consultants.

* Partners with outside project management teams to manage overall project schedules.
* Oversees demonstration project budgets and interfaces with the fundraising team and board of directors regarding funding needs.

IV.OTHER ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Excel in a teamwork environment, make presentations to various stakeholders regarding overall Green Galveston programs and projects. Other duties as assigned.

V. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in coastal science, marine biology, urban planning, or other related field
  • Background in environmental science, public policy or experience working with/forgovernmental organizations is a plus.
