The Wildlife Habitat Federation seeks WHF Development Officer

This position is responsible for working with the Executive Managing Director and Board of Trustees for planning and coordinating all aspects of fund development on behalf of WHF.

Identify, organize, and manage the fund-raising activities and programs of WHF with a focus on new opportunities to obtain ongoing and increased support from foundations, agencies, corporations (both public and private) as well as individual donors.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
•       Fund Raising
o       Establish short and long-range goals for both restricted and unrestricted funding sources. Strategize and orchestrate methods of approach and work with program staff to develop funding related projects.  Organize solicitation drives for ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
•       Grant Writing
o       Solicit and write proposals and reports for federal, state, city government RFP’s as well as private foundations and corporate RFP’s.
•       Major Gift/Donor Support
o       Produce major donor, board, and special category solicitation/support materials with the intent to retain or upgrade gifts when possible. Cultivate donors by producing specialized correspondence, preparing letters of acknowledgement, scheduling and in-person visits.
•       Database and Records Management
o       Coordinate and maintain donor data base and paper records of contributors and grants. Maintain security and quality controls of all gift programs.
•       Communications & Public Relations
o       Assist in the development and public affairs matters, particularly the creation of various communications such as the annual report, general boilerplate, general PowerPoint presentations, government relations, executive correspondence, and speeches.  Assist in the production of specific fund-raising elements for website.  Provide leadership on all fundraising initiatives, special events, planned giving, sponsorships and donor cultivation.
•       Income Financial Reporting
o       Work with accounting to maintain all records of restricted and unrestricted income and its sources, interface with office manager to fulfill information requests and maintain reporting accuracy.

Experience/Qualifications:
•       A minimum of 5 years of nonprofit fundraising/development experience, preferably with significant foundation and governmental program fundraising experience.
•       Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and/or quota of over $1M annually.
•       Excellent research, organizational and communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.
•       Comfortable with speaking in public fundraising arenas.
•       Experience and comfort working with senior level staff and board of directors.
•       High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
•       Demonstrate ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development.
•       Demonstrate ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new accounts.
•       Strong partnership-building and event fund raising planning skills.
•       Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base.
•       Knowledge of tax planning techniques that favor charitable giving.
•       Strong computer skills and proficient in Constant Contact,  Microsoft Office programs as well as any other key fundraising software.
•       Willingness to travel throughout Texas to fulfill fundraising tasks.
•       3 years or more of work experience with fundraising.
•       Possess experience in the conservation area of environmental ecology fields in fundraising.

Compensation – $60,000 to $80,000+.  depending upon experience.
