85th Texas Legislature Regular Session

The CEC will be providing updates about activities in the 85th Texas Legislature that are related to the environment. Please let us know if you are particularly interested in any legislation, and we’ll keep a special eye out for it. Over the next several months, we will also be providing guest commentary about various pieces of legislation.

We’ll be collecting our updates at cechouston.org/category/texas-legislature/. Next week, we will highlight bills relating to the environment that have been pre-filed. As of this posting, over 500 bills have been prefiled.

Significant dates for the legislature:

• November 14, 2016: Bill pre-filing begins
• January 10, 2017: First day of legislative session
• March 10, 2017: Deadline for filing most bills
• May 29, 2017: Last day of legislative session
• June 18, 2017 : Last day the governor can sign or veto bills passed during the regular legislative session
