Description: Noting the area’s rich vein of history, in 1986 Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature
Center in Humble decided to celebrate with a small living history event.
Twenty-five years later, Pioneer Day has grown into one of the park’s
largest festivals held each November. This year’s event is taking place
Saturday, November 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is still free of charge.
Dennis Johnston, Precinct 4’s park administrator, was the director of Jones Park at the onset of the program and speaks of the lore that spawned the event, “One of the
earliest known American Indian tribes, the Akokisas, lived in the area as far back
as 500 A.D., and early Texas pioneers settled here in the early 1800s.
