  1. Urban Harvest Fruit Tree Sale. Urban Harvest will be having a Fruit Tree sale on Saturday, January 15th, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Universtiy of Houston Robertson Football Stadium. The annual sale will bring together far more types and varieties of fruit trees than can be found anywhere else in the greater Houston area.   2. Cypress Creek Watershed Floodplain Maps. After 5 years of work, the long-awaited changes to correct floodplain maps throughout the Cypress Creek Watershed are now available for public and community review. To submit a review, visit http://www.ccfcc.org/index.html.
  3. Piney Woods Wildlife Society New Meeting Location. Beginning with the January 18, 2011, meeting, the Piney Woods Wildlife Society will hold its monthly meetings at the new Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center at 1300 Riley Fuzzel Road near Spring in Montgomery County. The Society has previously met at Mercer Arboretum. This group strives to help the community learn more about native wildlife and surrounding habitats.   4. RDA Initiative: Unexpected City. Rice Design Alliance is excited to announce a new initiative, Unexpected City, which celebrates Houston’s unique and most unexpected places. From the warehouses surrounding downtown to old-school barbershops to open fields, we want to know about the places that give the city its spark. We are asking you to submit your favorite place, which you can do via written word (which can include a short explanation of why this is your favorite place), photography, video, or any other form of expression that suits you best. Send ideas to Katie.Plocheck@rice.edu. Places off the beaten path or a personal experience that provides fresh perspective on a familiar icon are welcome.   5. TAEP Announces Technical Sessions. The Texas Association for Environmental Professionals, Houston Chapter, announces the technical sessions for Environmental Challenges and Innovations Conference, to be held February 10, 2010. More information and to register at www.taep.org.
  6. KPC opens the Matt Cook Memorial Wildlife Viewing Platform. Katy Prairie Conservany’s new wildlife-viewing platform at Warren Lake opened to the public on Saturday, January 8, 2011. The platform is open from 7 AM to dusk every day for visitors to enjoy the spectacular views, sights and sounds of Warren Lake. Experience the beauty of the prairie and understand why it’s so important to save the Katy Prairie. Remember to bring your camera because you never know what you’ll see on the Katy Prairie!
