FIRST EVER WILDLIFE BEACH CLEANUP!
Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge’s local conservation community is getting together and want YOU to leap into 2020 with us on the beach!
Why the beach?
Well, funny you should ask, a few weeks later hundreds of shorebirds will use the beachfront to court and nest. And, nesting birds need clean beaches! They and other wildlife are in harms way by the plastics that wash ashore – baby chicks eat small plastics, and the adults don’t do any better! If we try to cleanup in March we would scare the birds and harm nesting success. So, the best thing we can do is bring our jackets and tackle that chilly beach before they get there!
Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge’s goal is to teach you about these nesting birds and show what everyone can do to help them. Join to learn about bird behavior and what you can do for wildlife.
