About the Contest

The Children’s Earth Day Art Contest brings generations together to celebrate art and the planet. Part of the Houston Area’s Earth Day festivities, the contest originated in 2004 with Air Alliance Houston (previously known as Mothers for Clean Air) and was passed to the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition in 2016.

Each year, CEC reaches out to schools in Houston and invites them to submit art pieces for the Children’s Earth Day Art Contest. Students are charged with creating a piece of art that symbolizes the environmental future they wish to see; clean energy, solar power, increased biodiversity, and more.

All art pieces are judged, and a winner is chosen. The creator of the winning masterpiece wins a scholarship for themselves and their school’s art program.

The winning artwork is then toured around Houston to celebrate the hard work of the artist and the message of the piece before being auctioned to support environmental education programs.
