Memorial Park Conservancy seeks Parks and Events Attendant

Preserve, restore, and enhance Memorial Park for the enjoyment of all Houstonians, today and tomorrow.

Reporting Relationship: Visitor Services Supervisor

Status: Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available

Overview: The primary purpose of this position is to cultivate relationships with Memorial Park users by welcoming visitors, offering information, answering questions, and assisting with permitted rentals and reservations. The Park and Events Attendant is a key role in welcoming and engaging park users, ensuring an excellent in-park experience for visitors. This role also supports other Engagement Department areas during Memorial Park Conservancy’s in-house special events. Monitoring the safety and integrity of the Park will be essential at all times.

The position is primarily responsible for:

  • Front-line customer service; welcoming and assisting Park visitors
    • Proactively greet and welcome visitors to the Park
    • Assist visitors with information about the Park (Areas to visit, directions, things to do, upcoming events, etc.)
    • Inform and enforce Park rules and guidelines as necessary
    • Perform compliance checks prior to and after reservations
  • Assisting with Conservancy programming and fundraising events
    • Install/break down for events, including tents, fences, stanchions.
    • Set-up and breakdown for activity areas and events, including signage, stanchions, tents, cones, tables and chairs, etc.
    • Collaborate with Park Operations team to monitor the Park’s safety and integrity

Responsibilities:

  • Front desk duties at the Cullen Running Trails Center, as needed
    • Answers main phone line
    • Processes point-of-sale transactions
    • Assists with entering facility and park rentals into reservations system
    • Opens and/or closes the building at beginning/end of shift
    • Monitors cleanliness of Running Trails Center and its restrooms
    • Works with facility renters to help them have an unjoyful experience.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalency plus 2 years customer service experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • De-escalation skills and crisis management are a plus
  • Works well without direct supervision
  • Ability to communicate clearly with diverse groups in a tactful and pleasant way
  • Possesses good judgement and have strong decision-making skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends and confident working alone.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook. Excel is a plus. This position will be responsible for learning and using the Conservancy’s reservations software.
  • Must be able to work early morning shifts (5:45 a.m.) and late shifts (up to 10pm) sporadically. Schedule will vary on occasion.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to work in all types of weather
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs and be on your feet for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must feel comfortable driving a utility vehicle
  • “All hands-on-deck” approach, including moving briskly throughout the Park.

Compensation: This is an hourly non-exempt position with a starting rate is $15/hour. Part-time employees will work up to 25 hours per week. Full-time employees will work a 40 hour per week schedule and will be eligible for full benefits.
