Houston Parks and Recreation Department seeks Natural Resource Specialist

The City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s Natural Resources Management Program is hiring a Natural Resource Specialist (Park Naturalist). The Natural Resource Specialist will oversee all field-based aspects of habitat restoration projects, including supervising field staff, tracking project goals and outcomes, and conducting field-based data analysis. Field work will include mechanical and chemical invasive species removal, tree planting, mulching, and other habitat restoration tasks.  Preferred candidates have experience in field work and are ready to gain experience in management and project coordination.

The Natural Resources Management Program oversees all natural areas with the City of Houston’s 380 public parks. The program manages five prairie restoration sites, and is currently implementing HPARD’s riparian restoration initiative. In this initiative, we are targeting all parks adjacent to waterways for reforestation and habitat enhancement.
