Nature’s Way Resources, based in Conroe, Texas, is seeking an experienced nursery manager, with an in-depth knowledge of horticulture, to run the nursery business. You will be responsible for overseeing all managerial functions including hiring and training staff, ordering stock, managing accounts, responding to customer queries and other duties as they arise. The Nursery Manager will be required to oversee the growth and maintenance of all retail inventory and oversee the planting and maintenance of the display gardens, including adding new gardens as required.
Overseeing all managerial functions.
Overseeing and streamlining the daily functions of the nursery.
Hiring and training nursery staff.
Creating staff work schedules, work assignments and delegating duties.
Ordering and upkeep of all plant inventory for retail area
Growing plants, trees, and shrubs to use as stock.
Monitoring watering times, soil conditions, and plant positions.
Monitoring weather conditions and make appropriate preparations when
Creating and maintaining attractive retail area plant displays in addition to display
Responding to customer requests (phone, email, in-person).
Be able to assist customers and nursery staff in identify plants, plant diseases,
weeds, and insect pests and
Inspecting the nursery and equipment for signs of disrepair and coordinate
Responsible for coordinating clerical, record-keeping, inventory, requisitioning,
educational and marketing activities (including social media).
Work with management to create a plan to continue to grow the nursery/garden
Coordinate activities with other areas of the company from inside sales to
Bachelor’s degree in agricultural studies, horticulture (or a similar field) or
3+ Years’ experience working as a nursery manager.
Excellent communication and managerial skills.
Detailed knowledge of plant production, soil, compost, mulch, fertilizers, and
growing techniques (including native plants).
Scheduling employees and delegation of duties.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for customer service.
Responsible, Flexible and punctual.
Using or working with POS and stock ordering software systems.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Teach classes on gardening subjects, including creating power point
Social Media Experience
Participate on a live radio gardening show, including answering questions.
Bi-lingual (Spanish) is preferred.
Wage/salary package commensurate with experience.
Standard 40-hour work week, however an irregular work schedule that changes
depending on weather conditions, customer demand and possibly more during
peak spring season.
