Houston Natural Resources Management Program seeks Conservation Technician

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s Natural Resources Management Program is seeking a conservation technician, who will participate in field work at habitat restoration sites, as well as native plant propagation work at the HPARD greenhouse and tree farm. Habitat restoration tasks include invasive species removal, tree planting, mulching, herbicide application, watering, and overseeing habitat restoration volunteer workdays. Plant propagation tasks include seed collection, seeding trays, bumping plants up, greenhouse facility maintenance, and overseeing greenhouse volunteer workdays. The Natural Resources Management Program oversees all natural areas with the City of Houston’s 380 public parks. Our program manages five prairie restoration sites, and is currently implementing HPARD’s riparian restoration initiative. In this initiative, we are targeting all parks adjacent to waterways for reforestation and habitat enhancement.This is a permanent, full-time staffing position with HPARD with benefits. Preferred candidates have some background knowledge in ecological field work and plant identification, a positive attitude, and ability to work on a team.
