The Houston Parks & Recreation Department is seeking two part-time interns to work with the Natural Resources Management Program and partners at White Oak Parkway on an ongoing riparian restoration project aimed at enhancing urban bird and wildlife
habitat along Houston’s bayou corridors. A 10-acre portion of White Oak Parkway will be managed for birds and interpreted for the public as a pilot location for Houston Audubon’s Bird-Friendly Community Initiative.
The interns will work with crews, contractors and partners to implement project goals in restoration, interpretation, and outreach. Habitat restoration activities will focus on the removal of invasive species and planting of native plants suited for the riparian
corridor. The intern will work in the HPARD greenhouse to propagate native plants for installation at the site and visit areas around the city to collect seed and take cuttings of native plants. The interns will help coordinate educational events and activities with nearby community centers, local businesses, and schools.
